Handle with Care

Wednesday, 11 September 2013, 7pm

Two short interactive workshops, enabling members of the public to get to grips with some of the exhibits included in Nature Reserves. Up first are Wendy Kirk and Nick Booth from UCL Geology Collections to introduce pioneering Victorian volcanologist Dr Johnston-Lavis and his collection, and explain how to handle the specimens. Then it’s over to artist Hestia Peppe who will give the lowdown on kombucha, a yeast-bacteria colony that she’s been working with over the past few months. The workshop will take in its history, cultural significance, and lack of mainstream scientific attention before concluding with advice for growing your own. Visitors will be able to take away samples to start their own culture at home, so bring a jar!

7pm, Free! Please book your space by RSVPing to info@gvart.co.uk
