GRAPHITE – A Group Exhibition, curated by Robert Devcic

Invitation to a live performance

Wednesday 10 October 2012, 7pm-9pm

Graphite is one of the materials most commonly used for its mark making qualities. This specially created performance installation, by Ianis Lallemand and Anaïs Tondeur, re-imagines the properties of graphite as a drawing instrument. Rather than using graphite to produce drawings by putting pencil to paper, this installation explores the possibilities opened to this process by digital technologies.

Viewers are invited to interact with the piece, by using tools to scratch, hit or caress the graphite surfaces. This causes the material to vibrate, and it is these vibrations which are then digitally translated into printed drawings.

This innovative performance will be performed three times on the evening Wednesday 10 October. There will be an opportunity to meet with the artists and discuss the development of this original performance.
