Jonathan Gooders (born 1975) is a London-based contemporary artist, trained art restorer and picture framer. His work embraces landscapes, abstract paintings and portraits. Most recently Jonathan is concentrating on figurative studies. In particular, his work is concerned with articulating the figure w ithin a space.
Jonathan studied Fine Art at Cheltenham & Gloucester College of Higher Education. He graduated with a BA (Hons) degree in Painting and an abiding interest in draughtsmanship and expressive mark making. Jonathan says, 'I am fascinated by the way in which the marks and texture of a picture can both capture and evoke emotion - of the subject, and in the onlooker."
Jonathan's preferred media is oil paint, though he also enjoys using multiple media, often incorporating oil, acrylic, pastel and charcoal into his work. He is attracted to subjects that express intensity, be that personal charisma, or through their physical characteristics. Often, inevitably, it is a combination of both. Jonathan's work seeks to convey the physical presence of his subject and, at the same time, their underpinning psychological truth.
Jonathan says, " I want the image to open to interpretation, so avoid applying a specific meaning or description to each work. This allows the viewer to have their own personal feelings for the image because the work becomes individual to them."
