John Bucklow (born 1947) is a British multimedia artist, photographer and writer living in Wellington, New Zealand. John's work has a narrative quality, born of his fascination with language and the power of the still image. He is drawn to questions of identity, and his work explores the value systems that shape and constrain our lives.

John was educated at the Manchester High School of Art and Camberwell School of Art, where he studied painting, sculpture, and printmaking. He subsequently worked in the creative professions, product design, marketing, international trade and publishing, before resuming his art practice.

Until recently his work has been almost exclusively derived from photography, usually characterized by the juxtaposition of real and invented images which challenge the viewer. He now employs a more eclectic methodology in which drawings, assemblage and live video play an increasingly important role. The multimedia works displayed here are all short clips from his installation work Parallel.

An installation of ten individual works, Parallel won an exhibition place in the international Virtual Residency project in Germany; "Parallel is a new direction in my work", he says, "derived from significant life change - migration - it also represents my debut in new media in an international and supranational context."
