Frances is a photographic illustrator who creates images using in-camera effects, collage and digital manipulation. Her work involves the photographic creation of talismanic images - making patterns, summoning elemental emotions and iconic essences.

Being aware of how some cultures believe that photography steals the soul, her work aims to respect the power of the image, make it tangible and create a space which illuminates and expresses the soul. Artists and writers who have influenced her work include Cindy Sherman, Marina Warner, Rudolph Steiner and Madame Yvonde.

Exploring gender and the psychosexual roles of women in society, working with stereotypes and archetypes, is a driving force of her work, especially around the themes of glamour and fascination, oppression and revelation, creating portraits of women in a supernatural style. Frances also works with film and video projections to create ritualised territories with film, light, veils and mirrors - a revelation of the hidden is a theme, a gateway between worlds.
